A major deal is reshaping the distribution of several European insurance markets—Generali Group has announced the acquisition of Liberty Seguros for €2.3 billion.
This acquisition will allow Generali to enter two new markets: the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Context:
Liberty Seguros primarily focuses on the general insurance segment, with a strong emphasis on automobile insurance. The company reported over €1.2 billion in premiums as of 2022.
It employs 1,700 people and operates with 5,600 intermediaries across its markets, developing its business through agents, brokers, direct sales channels, and bancassurance partnerships.
Generali’s Market Expansion:
Generali is present in 50 countries worldwide, with over 82,000 employees and total premium income of €81.5 billion in 2022. The group holds a leading position in Europe and is expanding its presence in Asia and Latin America.
Following the acquisition, Generali will rank 4th in the general insurance market in Spain and 2nd in Portugal. Additionally, the company will enter the Irish market among the top 10 insurers by market share, according to the official statement regarding the deal.
